May 7 Warheads to Windmills Breakout session – VFP Climate Crisis and Militarism Project – Jim Rine
- Our group of 6-8 people included about 50% who are members of Veterans for Peace.
- The remarks were framed by points about the increased nuclear threat due to tensions between the United States and Russia and the possibility of a nuclear winter if the weapons are used. The speaker asserted that the only way to avoid catastrophe is to have no new arms race.
- The discussion centered around the urgent need to coordinate the efforts among the various groups advocating for the elimination of nuclear weapons. Without a unified voice and presence, no group has sufficient strength and effectiveness to bring about the desired changes. We must be willing to give up our silos, indeed to share organizations, budgets, leadership, etc. Do we care enough about our shared goal to do that?
