On Friday, March 15th, H.738 was reported favorably out of the Joint Committee on Emergency Preparedness and Management! H.738 is the house version of the Nuclear Weapons and Climate Commission Bill. This news came directly after activists held a busy day of advocacy at the State House with members of the committee and an organized phone banking effort the day before the vote. More work will need to be done to support H.738 in the house so stay tuned for how you can help.
In light of this success we now need to turn our immediate attention to the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security, which has until April 8th to vote favorably on both the Senate version of the Commission bill (S.1488) AND the Back from the Brink resolution (S.1487). Our Action Network letter campaign has been updated accordingly:
The Action Network letter briefly describes both these bills as important, urgent and no-brainers! The letter automatically goes to the person’s own state Representative and state Senator depending on the address entered. IF their Rep. or Senator is on the Joint Committee on Public Safety Homeland Security, the letter urges them to vote these two bills favorably out of their committee. And if their rep or senator is NOT on the committee, the letter asks them to urge their colleagues ON that committee to vote the two bills favorably out. The letters can also be edited however anyone wants.
In addition to lobbying members of the committee directly, which we are organizing to do on March 27th, it is hugely important that they also hear from their own constituents. Please circulate the Action Network link to your friends, members, and supporters in Massachusetts and ask them to write to their state legislators ASAP!
If you want to join for in person lobbying of the Joint Committee on Emergency Preparedness and Management for S.1487 and S.1488 on March 27th, please reach out to Anduin ([email protected]).
