On Wednesday, March 6th, students and activists with the Massachusetts Warheads to Windmills coalition had a very successful day of meetings advocating for the creation of the MA Nuclear Weapons and Climate Citizens Commission. The students, high school and college, met with members of the Joint Committee on Emergency Preparedness and Management, where H.738 sits in committee with a deadline of March 15th. The advocates spoke with members of the Committee and their staff, impressing the importance of the Citizens Commission and how it will benefit Massachusetts. The students plan to return to the State House for another day of advocacy later this month to visit with members of the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security to do keep pushing for a safer future!
We kicked off the day with an impromptu meeting with Governor Healey, thanking her for her work appointing the nation’s first Climate Czar.
The students had a great meeting with Senator Oliveira, who proceeded to cosponsor H.738 and S.1488!
A productive and important meeting with Chairman Driscoll. Constituent Louis Pierro joined us to represent Milton for Peace in the Chairman’s district. We had so many advocates they barely fit in the room!
Constituent Louise Coleman joined us for a meeting with the office of Senator Rausch.
Advocates on the steps of the MA State House after a full day of activism!
